    Eye with cornea bilobed. Rostral plate broad and with round apex. Median carina of the carapace not interrupted at base of anterior bifurcation and with anterior bifurcation opening anterior to the dorsal pit. Raptorial claw dactylus with 6 teeth; merus of the claw with inferodistal spine on outer surface. 5th - 7th thoracic somites with lateral process bilobed. 5th thoracic somite with anterior lateral process sharp, slender and anterolaterally pointed; with posterior one small and laterally pointed. 6th and 7th thoracic somites with anterior lateral process blunt, slender and laterally pointed; with posterior one broad and triangular. 5th and 6th abdominal somites with armed submedian carinae; 4th - 6th abdominal somites with armed intermediate carinae. Uropodal exopod proximal segment with 7-9 movable spines on outer margin.
    Burrows in near-shore level-bottom substrates in sheltered embayment or estuaries. Occurs in muddy bottoms of bays and inlets. Feeds mainly on crustaceans, mollusks, polychaetes, and fish; occasionally on plant materials. Some members of the order Stomatopoda pair for life and some come together only to mate. Males produce sperm ducts rather than spermatophores; females can brood a maximum of 50,000 eggs. Life cycle: Eggs hatch to a planktonic zoea which lasts for 3 months
