1811 ANACS F12 Details Half CentCohen-1 (C-1) die pair
The C-1 is significantly more elusive than the C-2 pairing, and this is on a key date for the series.
Nearly all 1811 half cents are impaired, one way or another: bent, cleaned, corroded, etc.
This one evidences a typical level of corrosion and presents quite well.
I had a small hoard of 1811 half cents, C-1 especially, for many years. The C-1 is further interesting in the die states of a die break that results ultimately in a strong cud over the first 4 stars (left of the date). I had assembled a set of those states. The earliest state, which is this one, is the typical one found. The startling terminal cud state is next. The intermediate states are prohibitively rare, taking decades to locate them and some dedicated collectors will never find them. But this is the key date regardless and a nice specimen that works for budgets that do not want to throw four- or five-figures at a coin. I had sold the 1811 half cents out years back, but found three that I had forgotten to put into public auction. This is the last of them and my first offering since I sent it to ANACS for grading.
Strike and details are excellent. Corrosion is not distracting. There is a little green on the reverse, the natural oxidation toning color for copper. Price to sell. Greysheet wholesale bid is 50 in F12. Typically, a fine details certified will go for around half of that. Pricing below.
